A peculiarly sadistic form of death was developed by Ali Towelli. To save ammunition, one prisoner was forced to batter out the brains of another with a heavy hammer on the promise of a reprieve. The "executioner" is then killed in the same way by another brought from the cells with the same promise.

My father narrowly escaped this sadistic death in the early 1970s. He was next in line to be executed when the supervising soldier halted the killings for the day. The next day, my father was scheduled to get killed. However, owing to chance...he was transferred to Makindye under Marella.
